Strathclyde Loch Sailing Club

venue

Now the traditional curtain-raiser on the Albacore season, SLSC spring regatta has the great advantage of being a one day event. The club is situated in Strathclyde Country Park, near Motherwell. Courses make full use of the available water with 6 club racing marks dotted along the banks of the Loch. Launching is from concrete slipways right next to the rigging area. The changing facilities are probably the best that we visit.

travel

From all direction, Strathclyde Country Park is situated adjacent to the M74 and is clearly signposted from both the North and the South. The club is at the Southern end of the Loch and can be seen from all parts of the park.

Royal West Of Scotland Amateur Boat Club

venue

Royal West is situated on the Firth of Clyde on the headland where Greenock meets Gourock. The club encompasses both sailing and rowing. The venue is a regular on the Albacore circuit having hosted the Scottish Championship twice in recent years. The racing area is to the North of the clubhouse on a deceptively broad stretch of the Clyde. The area offers clear winds and traditional courses. Launching is from either a shingle beach or a concrete slipway, depending on where you have rigged. Camping is available in the grounds.

travel

Greenock is situated on the A8 west of Glasgow. Follow the signs for Gourock and the Ferries. The club is on your right just as you drive out of Greenock and into Gourock. If you see the Welcome to Gourock sign, you've gone too far! The clubhouse is easily spotted by the boats unloading on the road nearby and by sailing flags on a mast on the roof.

North Berwick is situated on the A198, off the A1. When approaching from Edinburgh, the main road drives directly to the dinghy park. Largs Sailing Club

Largs SC has recently relocated to the new Scottish Sailing Instute complex by the marina in Largs, offering modern and comprehensive facilities. Two race areas are used. One, more sheltered area, is directly off the clubhouse in the Largs channel between the mainland and the island of Cumbrae. This offers conditions similar to the many sea lochs on the west coast. The other, more open, area is to the North of Cumbrae and offers open sea conditions.

Camping is available on site.
